  • 1 lb ground beef Provides protein and heartiness to the salad.
  • 1 packet taco seasoning For that authentic taco flavor.
  • 1 cup lettuce, chopped Adds freshness to the salad.
  • 1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved For sweetness and color.
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or Mexican blend) Adds creaminess and richness.
  • 1 cup sour cream For a cool and creamy dressing.
  • 1 cup salsa For a zesty kick.
Optional toppings

  • jalapeños

Equipment

  • Large Skillet
  • Large Mixing Bowl
  • Measuring Cups
  • Wooden Spoon or Spatula
  • Knife and Cutting Board
  • Serving Bowl

Method

  1. Step 1: In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef. Use a wooden spoon to break it up as it cooks. Cook until it’s browned, which should take about 5-7 minutes. Remember to drain the excess fat before moving on to the next step.
  2. Step 2: Once the beef is cooked, stir in the taco seasoning. Follow the package instructions for adding water. Typically, you'll need to add about 2/3 cup of water. Bring the mixture to a simmer and let it cook for about 5 minutes.
  3. Step 3: In a large mixing bowl, layer the chopped lettuce as the base.
  4. Step 4: Spoon the seasoned beef over the lettuce layer. Make sure to distribute it evenly.
  5. Step 5: Add the halved cherry tomatoes on top of the beef.
  6. Step 6: Sprinkle the shredded cheese generously over the salad.
  7. Step 7: Crush the Doritos slightly and sprinkle them over the top of the salad.
  8. Step 8: Drizzle the sour cream and salsa over the entire salad.
  9. Step 9: Add any optional toppings like sliced olives, jalapeños, or diced avocado.
  10. Step 10: Toss the salad gently to combine the ingredients before serving.

Notes

This salad is perfect for meal prepping. You can prepare the components ahead of time and assemble them when you’re ready to eat. Store the components separately to keep the Doritos crunchy.
