Ingredients

For the Homemade Cranberry Juice
  • 4 cups fresh or frozen cranberries Choose firm, plump berries. Frozen cranberries can be used directly without thawing.
  • 4 cups water Filtered water is preferred for the best taste.
  • 1 cup sugar Adjust to taste; you might prefer less or more sweetness.
Optional
  • to taste lemon juice For added flavor. Freshly squeezed lemon juice will enhance the tartness.

Equipment

  • Large Pot
  • Fine Mesh Strainer or Cheesecloth
  • Wooden Spoon
  • Measuring Cups
  • Pitcher or Bottle
  • Bowl
  • Ice Cubes

Method

  1. Step 1: Rinse the cranberries under cold water. It’s important to remove any impurities or debris. As you rinse, check each berry for any stems or damaged fruit, discarding any that do not look fresh.
  2. Step 2: In a large pot, combine the rinsed cranberries with water. Place the pot over medium heat and bring the mixture to a boil.
  3. Step 3: Once the mixture reaches a boil, reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 10-15 minutes.
  4. Step 4: After simmering, remove the pot from the heat and let the mixture cool slightly.
  5. Step 5: Using a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth, strain the juice into a bowl or pitcher. Press the solids gently to extract as much liquid as possible.
  6. Step 6: Add sugar to the strained juice, stirring until fully dissolved. Adjust sweetness to your liking.
  7. Step 7: Transfer the juice to the refrigerator and chill it before serving or pour it over ice cubes.

Notes

Homemade cranberry juice can last about one week in the refrigerator if stored in an airtight container. You can also freeze it for longer storage.
