- Step 1: Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish with unsalted butter.
- Step 2: Layer the sliced brioche or challah bread in the baking dish, overlapping slightly.
- Step 3: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and salt until well combined.
- Step 4: Pour the egg mixture evenly over the arranged bread slices and use a spatula to gently press down on the bread.
- Step 5: Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.
- Step 6: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Step 7: Remove the plastic wrap and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the center is set.
- Step 8: Let the French toast cool slightly before serving. Drizzle with maple syrup and top with fresh fruit if desired.

For an even richer flavor, consider adding a tablespoon of orange zest or nutmeg to the egg mixture.
